How I moved contacts
I will mention the steps I took to make this move.
1. HTC Touch Diamond is a Windows Mobile based device. The file pim.vol is the file containing the contacts.
Copying the pim.vol to a PC and opening it is not possible.
2. Download onto your TouchDiamond a freeware tool: PIM Backup (http://www.dotfred.net/) . Unzip and run the exe file.
3. Once you start the PIM Backup tool, choose Backup and then check Contacts(we are looking for contacts only). Click Next.
4. In the next screen, select a name for the backup file name and also for the folder by clicking Browse button. Make sure to uncheck Binary backup if it is already checked. Then click Next.
5. There will be series of messages. The last message should read "Backup task ended in ....". Then click Exit.
4. Go to the folder which you chose and locate the file.
6. Connect the phone to the PC. Navigate to the folder where the backup file exists(.pib file). Copy this file to a folder onto your PC.
7. This .pib file is a compressed file. Use Winrar or winzip to open the .pib file. It will contain contacts.csc. Extract it.
8. Rename contacts.csc to contacts.csv.
9. You can open this csv file using Openoffice or Excel program to modify.
Then use the import option in gmail to import the contacts.
10. You would have setup or linked a gmail account on the Vibrant. Go to Accounts and Sync app. In the Manage accounts locate the gmail account and open it. Click Sync Contacts.
11. Your contacts should show up in the Contacts.
Enjoy!
